The Los Gatos Tennis & Reading Club started in 2015 and is a partnership between BCCTA, Britton Christian Church, and Britton Elementary School. The goal of our faith-based program is to use tennis to help children from Spanish speaking homes in the classroom.

On Monday, Tuesday and Thursday afternoons some 12-20 kids from Britton Elementary School meet at the BCCTA indoor court at the church for tennis lessons, reading and homework assistance. At the close of each session Pastor Irvin Rodriguez shares a life lesson from the Bible, we circle up for prayer  followed by our closing cheer, “Uno, dos, tres….Los Gatos!

The Los Gatos program has been very successful as the reading level of the kids continues to improve, their tennis game is progressing faster than any of the coaches imagined and more volunteer coaches have gotten involved. Some of our Hispanic players have moved up to Junior Team Tennis playing with the Cheetahs, the BCCTA 10U Team Tennis team.  One player is now one of the top 10U players in the state. But, for the BCCTA, our ultimate goal is to help kids come to know Jesus, the Coach who will teach them about life, encourage them at every turn and never abandon them through their tough losses and challenging points of life.
