Sunday afternoon eight members of the BCCTA Cheetahs took to the courts at the Oklahoma City Tennis Center at Will Rogers Park needing 20 standings points in their final dual of the season to clinch the 2019 Spring 10-and-Under Junior Team Tennis championship.
The Cheetahs found themselves in a deep hole following the initial two doubles matches for the first time all season. In the two stressful hours later that saw three matches go the full three-set distance – USTA officials added up the final team scoring – the Cheetahs accumulated 22 points and clinched their fourth consecutive City Championship in dramatic fashion.
Members of the team include: Audrey Bohnstedt, Gray Dillon, Alma Mendoza-Gonzalez, Andrea Mendoza-Gonzalez, Ivan Mendoza, Yuri Mendoza, Braver Reineke and Hayden Shriner. Entering the season, Dillon was the lone member of the squad with competitive-playing experience. Over the course of six hard-fought matches against metro-area country clubs and public tennis facilities, the Cheetahs won 41-of-54 sets and won 68 percent of individual games played.
The Cheetahs will continue training throughout the month of May and begin the Summer JTT Season in June. The top two teams from the Oklahoma City 10-and-under league advance to the JTT State Championships July 15-16 at the Oklahoma City Tennis Center.
